"I am not a self help guy, I am a strategist" - Tony Robbins (not exact words but pretty close)

Last night I was watching Piers Morgan's show on which Tony was a guest for a half hour on .  He uttered words that he did not just see himself as a rah rah kind of guy but that he is a strategist.

The interviewer even mentioned that Tony has a client that pays him 1M+ every year to meet with him a few times a year and work on strategy.  Wow!

Being familiar with Tony's work it did not surprise me that he speaks and motivates but he considered his brand to be more of a strategist.  It makes sense but I would have never thought that would be his one word that he uses to describe himself.

In a past post I mentioned that I use cREATOR (with a small c) to describe myself.  This took me about eight hours of thinking to come up withthe word.

Today's question is:
"What is the one word you would use to brand yourself?"

"What would you say about yourself"- Unknown

Often we let others describe us.  We let their words define us.

Unfortunately, when we try to describe ourselves it is often based on our job(s).  But is that all we are?

I told a story of a gentlemen asking me the question, "So what do you do?" in an earlier post and having difficulty to answer it.  Eventually I concluded that the word creator(with a small c) describes me the best.

I create.  That is who I am.  I feel the best when I create something that did not exist before.  Something unique.  And if it is a product, I feel even better.

Today's question is:
"What one word would you use to describe yourself?"

"self description=job description"- unfortunate equation

When we first meet people we often ask the question, "So what do you do?" In an earlier post I offered a better question, "Tell me about your life?"

We are not our jobs.  We are not our income level.  As Wayne Dyer has so elegantly phrased it, "We are spiritual beings having a physical experience NOT physical beings having a spiritual experience"

We must diversify our identity.  It must be more than our job.

Today's question is:
"How would you describe yourself if you did not tell how you earned your living?"

"Everything could be turned into a weapon" Sara Carpenter's favorite quote

Consider the last five posts.  I took an article I read that was five pages and created five blog posts.

One of the things that I want to do is to convert information that I consume into posts.  So if anything seems cool and informative I will try to write an entry into the blog.  This blog is one of my weapons in my arsenal.

Over time this will build the blog up but also provide a basis for a book- another weapon.  I started labeling the blog entries and hopefully by the end of the year I have about 30 topics on which I have written at least 10 entries.

The blog and the books will be a part of my brand.

As we learned from Dr. Medina's Google presentation blog entry any two topics could be turned into a good one hour presentation. Again, improving my visibility and my brand.

Today's question is:
"What are your weapons?"

"Why do people buy McDonald's when there is a better burger joint down the street?"-question I posed to an MBA class

Last fall my wife and I were driving to Ann Arbor Michigan for a recruiting effort.  While on the road she read aloud a book that I recommended.  The name of the book is Crush It by Gary V.  In the book Gary discusses how he grew his liquor store business into a successful online business using social media. In addition he also shares how he created his personal brand.

The world is rapidly changing and the need to distinguish yourself is very important.  You need to think in terms of your own personal brand.  What do people know about you and how they perceive you.

With the question above I wanted to stir them to realize that McD is a recognizable brand and that their purchase has to do with their past experiences with that brand.  If they happen to be in a new town and the exact scenario presented itself they would most often opt for the McD because they can predict the outcome, their level of satisfaction.  Even though the other burger might be orders of magnitude better they will most often choose the known brand.

Today's question is:
"What are some terms(your brand) that people would use to describe you?"
