Shipping and Handling
“I will send you my book for free if
you pay shipping and handling.”- selling idea
Today I got
a video for a book. The book was of
interest to me. The author said that he
will send me his book if I only paid the shipping and handling. I did.
Afterwards,
I wondered why shipping and handling is $6.95?
Based on the size of the book, the self-published book cost is most
likely about 2-3 dollars. Can shipping
cost about $4? I will definitively
notice the cost when the shipment comes in.
Suppose the
cost is $4. What that is telling me is
that the book cost and the shipping cost are absorbed by me and not the
author. He gets no profit or minimal
profit. But what he does get is
advertising and the idea that if you like this one product he not only captured
your email address but can also supply you with additional products for a
higher profit. Not a bad idea!
I have
bought another book a month ago that fit this model. Even though I am writing this post, I have no
issue with it since my cost is pretty minimal and I get to learn something
new. It is self-education on topics of
interest to me.
Today’s
question is:
“What can you give away at cost that
can serve as advertising for your other products?”
