The Seed of Success
“Success is how well you do what you do when nobody else is looking”- John Paul DeJoria
The other day I was listening to a segment on Yahoo in which John offered this formula for success. In the story he told, he recalled his first job that he absolutely loved. The job was working in a dry cleaning business and getting paid $1.25 per hour.
Dry cleaning business?
John did everything in the business. He would clean the clothes, place the plastic over it, put the labels on, etc. And when he was not busy he would grab the broom and sweep the place. The owner who was known as a tight wad one day approached him and told him that he needed to speak with him.
John was nervous that he would be fired. The owner told him that he worked late last night and he did not have the energy to go home. SO he decided to sleep on the floor of his office. When he layed down under his desk he noticed that his hand did not get dirty. Surprised by this, he then went over to several areas in his office and repeated the clean test. He could not believe it that his office was clean.
The owner raised John’s pay by 25 cents an hour. That is a 20% increase!
John did what he loved without being asked and when no one was watching. He did not need his boss to tell him to clean up the place. He was successful because he did what was needed without direction.
Today’s question is:
“What is that you need to do without being told to do so?”
