365QOD- Day1150

Best 30 Seconds

"Immediately after every lecture, meeting, or any significant experience, take 30 seconds — no more, no less — to write down the most important points. If you always do just this, said his grandfather, and even if you only do this, with no other revision, you will be okay."- advice given to George McKeown

I read this story on LinkedIn about the 30 Second Habit with Lifelong Impact by George McKeown.  The story was good and this quote made me want to stop and think through it.

I have been known to capture notes during meetings very well.  Even months after a meeting I can go back and re-read the notes and refresh myself on exactly what happened during the meeting.  But that is not the point of this article.  The point is not about note taking.

The point of the story is to stop and capture the most important point.  It could be a follow-up item.  It could be an idea the meeting generated.  It could be an impression.  You are the judge of what is the most important point to that event.

I believe that the 30 second pause could be a game changer.  It will allow us to pause and capture something that most likely will be quickly forgotten or overlooked.  Capturing of the most important point will serve as a summary for the event and make it more likely that we would follow-up.

Today's question is:
"Do you stop for 30 seconds immediately after an event to capture the most important point of the event?"
