Smart Receipts
"We take off 5% of your bill if you would share your contact information with us?"- a smart request
The other day I was reading a new issue of Fast Company. In one of the articles the writer Barunde Thurston noted how companies and individuals do business with other companies and do not obtain contact information. This is a great loss.
Imagine going to a restaurant and you finished your meal. The waiter runs your credit card and comes back with a receipt. You pay it and you leave. The merchant just dropped the ball. They do not have a way of nurturing that relationship. You leave and they have no way of contacting you.
What if they would make you and offer such as the one I wrote in the quote. Maybe you would take it? Maybe you will not. If you did then the vendor can contact you in the future with additional offers and surveys.
I know.. I know you get contacted all of the time and wish not to be contacted. But what if the merchant makes it worth your while. You would look forward to the contact and use the bonuses. The merchant can structure their deals and relationship to retain you as a customer. It could be a win-win for both if played intelligently.
It would be nice to know who has purchased my books and be able to reach out to them with special free offers. Unfortunately, Amazon has that information and I do not.
Today's question is:
"How do you turn a purchase into a relationship?"
